Dance
Preschool Program
Ages are only one part of working out what class your child is suitable in; there are many other factors to consider.
Firstly you will be given an assessment in the first class so the teacher can see physically where your child is at. Other factors include their personality, whether they have been in a class environment before, if they have older siblings, whether they have been to crèche/child minding. We have found these to be important in helping to decide which class is appropriate.
Toddlers: 18th months - 3 years
This class is designed to have parental participation (this can vary depending on the child); sometimes it's just sitting in class and sometimes its being more interactive.
Kinder: 3-4 years
These classes are designed to get the children to be working independently but we are vary conscious to realize they are all individuals and some will take longer than others to cope with the separation and independence of this class.
Toddler and Kinder students participate in activities ranging from song & dance, gym circuit (perpetual motor program) and music. The environment is designed for preschool children, each class is focused on the children learning and developing motor skills in a fun atmosphere with positive reinforcement.
Focusing on individual needs of the children the classes teach
- fine and gross motor skills;
- balance;
- fitness;
- locomotion;
- appreciation of basic music, rhythm and timing;
- socialization skills;
- hand-eye and foot coordination;
- creativity and imagination; and
- self confidence.
Classes are structured into age groups to accommodate the children’s mental and physical needs as each developmental stage is different.
Our classes are great for overcoming shyness, developing new interests, growing independence, unleashing energy, making new friends, building life long skills.
Little Fairies: Preschool Level 1
Children must be at least 3-4 years old. For the children that are ready to dance, this means they may have already completed the kinder program or joined us at the appropriate age this class is a great introduction.
It combines co-ordination activities with dance during the first stages and progresses to a full dance class. They learn the first lessons of classical ballet and jazz dance working towards performing routines by the end of year. It is an extremely fun and relaxed class.
This is a class where fun and discipline go hand in hand. ATOD preschool syllabus is introduced in this class to lay the foundations for a creative technical dancer.
The Little Fairies dance class focuses on
- movement - where and how we move
- space awareness - personal, shared and general;
- directions;
- what our bodies are capable of;
- which body parts move;
- how body parts move;
- time and energy in movement.
There are many benefits to this class, such as he development of listening and social skills, improvement of fine and gross motor skills, development of expression, enjoyment of dance and music.
